Recombinant production of proteins is one of the most powerful techniques used in the life sciences. The ability to produce and purify an abundance of a desired recombinant protein can permit a wide range of possibilities including its use in industrial processes or in diagnostics. Bioreactors have been used for production of recombinant proteins on a large scale as compared to the shake-flask method. The main objective of this workshop is to introduce the basic principles of protein production using recombinant host Escherichia coli and Pichia pastoris in bioreactor. We will include practical sessions for bioreactor preparation, inoculation, sampling techniques, strategies, fermentation and system monitoring. The workshop will also emphasize the principles of fermentation needed in research and production operations at the pilot scale.
