Genomics Facilities

The Genomics Facility in MGI has been established as a national core facility to serve research needs. We promote advancements in biology by providing researchers complete genomic solutions using state-of-the-art DNA and RNA analysis instruments. The instruments available range from traditional capillary sequencing (Sanger Technology), low-throughput next-generation sequencing (IlluminaMiSeq® System) to high-throughput NGS sequencing (Illumina HiSeq 2000). The facility is perfectly suited to cater your project needs whether whole genome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome sequencing, amplicon-based projects, metagenomics as well as targeted sequencing. We offer many sequencing associated services such as library preparation and QC as well as consultations on project design. Downstream analytical options can be coordinated with the Genome Computing Centre (GCC) team.

Illumina HiSeq 2000

• 
Illumina HiSeq system utilizes sequencing by synthesis method to generate billions of bases of high-quality DNA sequence per run.
• 
Each flow  allows up to 96 multiplexing by using barcoded adapter sequences.
• 
Typically generate up to 300 gigabases per flowcell with a read length of 2 x 100 bp and with a run-time of 10-12 days.
• 
Suitable for sequencing of whole genome, transcriptome, exome, small RNA, ChiP-Seq, methylation, copy number analysis or SNP discovery.


Illumina MiSeq® System

• 
Suitable for targeted gene sequencing, metagenomics, small genome sequencing, targeted gene expression, amplicon sequencing, and library QC.
• 
New MiSeq reagents enable up to 15 Gb of output with 25 M sequencing reads and 2x300 bp read lengths.


Sanger DNA Sequencing

• 
The Applied Biosystems 3730xl is a fully automated system used for detecting fluorescently labeled DNA and can provide up to 800 high quality bases per reaction.
• 
Ideal for single sample sequencing, primer walking, shotgun sequencing and SNP detection.
